Ayurvedic Asana
Learn yoga postures specific to each Ayurvedic dosha! Ayurveda is a sister science to yoga. In Ayurveda, we individualize medicine to match the mind/body type (doshas). Just as diet and lifestyle can balance us or throw us out of balance, movement practice can also do the same. There are such a wide variety of asana and pranayamas and this class will look at the best asanas and pranayamas for each doshic type, so you can customize your practice to support your own constitution. This is also a great class for teachers to learn how to best support the variety of students and doshic types that show up in a class through your approach to each student in your guidance and assists.

Know your Ayurvedic Dosha
Ayurveda is a medicine system from India, a sister science to yoga, based on the 5 elements around us and within us. We each have a unique balance of elements in our mind and body and it is important to know our unique ratio, when we are in alignment with this, we are free from dis-ease. When we fall out of balance with our nature, we can develop imbalances that lead to ill-health of body and mind. There are so many fad diets around and why is it that some diets work for some people or some amount of time and then it changes? In Ayurveda health is a dynamic dance, unique to you! In this class, we will discuss all 3 doshas in Ayurveda and help you understand your unique constitution and what can be done to in diet and lifestyle to maintain balance unique to you!

Rama Vernon’s Back Breathing
The legacy of Rama Jyoti Vernon (my mother) lives on in her work and students and this class is to honor her and her work. She studied with many masters of the East whom she brought to the West and hosted in her home, and developed this technique as an outgrowth of her own process. The back breath is a deep and therapeutic method of incorporating breath into each asana, moving and elongating the spine to release the spinal nerve roots that innervate all the organs and moving on the exhalation “when the ego unravels itself.” It is a paradigm shift in the realm of asana incorporating the deeper yogic principles into the movement practice itself, creating the deep inner strength of the Yogi and penetrating the subconscious mind through the back body.
